Random tidbit

Ah, once again I have fallen back into the black-hole that is academics and have yet again put blogging on the back burner. All in the name of education, yes?

Unfortunately I had to work the morning 8hr shift at work on my birthday, however I was able to salvage the rest of my birthday after I got off at 5:30pm. I went over to Aiden's for dinner and cake. Her family gave me an awesome X-Men t-shirt and a pair of red converse shoes (totally wasn't exepecting a gift like THAT), both of which I plan to wear in the immediate future. :) I also recieved a beautiful boquet of flowers from my parents a few days ago and an amusing e-card from Aunt Arnie, Ron and Dan. :)

It's off to bed for me here in CA but I hope everyone is doing well. I leave you all with this amusing photo:

Update (finally)

Ack! I've been severely lacking in updating this thing, which somewhat defeats the purpose of this blog BUT it should act as an indication that I've buckled myself down into my studies and have my eyes on the prize. The prize being, of course, graduation this upcoming spring.

Speaking of graduation, my graduating class and I are currently attempting to get Ellen DeGeneres (yes, THAT Ellen!) to come to Mills College in May to be our graduation speaker. How insane would that be?! So far we've been getting a lot of support from the other years here as well as alumns, and the President of our college officially signed off on the idea a few days ago so it's full steam ahead. Right now various members are trying to come up with a proper course of action and a way of 'attack' to not only gain Ellen's attention but also her interest in coming to speak.

This week, one of my goals is to book my flight back to CT for my visit during the winter break. My second goal being signing up for my classes for my last semester here at Mills. This time around, I'm confident in the classes I'm going to be signing up for, however I'm hoping that my professor doesn't cancel the classes yet again next semester (she had to since she came down with a flu this semester).

It is now 10:30pm (CA), and I have class in the a.m. but I wanted you all to know that I am alive and well.

Love you all.

"This is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween..."

Happy (belated) Halloween everyone!

Oh, how I remember the days when I would dress up and go trick or treating around Carter Street with my parents and then my friends as I got older. My favorite costumes are still the times when I was the red power ranger, Spiderman and Batman. Perhaps I was feeling sentimental or maybe I'm just meant to be a superhero, but this Halloween I channeled Clark Kent/Superman.

A bunch of my friends came over to our apartment on campus to hang out, overall it was a good time had by all.

I leave you all with this picture of my costume:

Wedding Wrap-Up

Hello all!

This is a long overdue wrap-up of the wedding weekend in Jekyl. Overall the weekend was awesome, I was able to see family that I hadn't seen in years (we're talking about 10-15 years here) and I was able to reconnect with extended family members. Seeing Rick and Deborah swear the rest of their lives to each other was beautiful and there wasn't one person at that wedding that wasn't moved at least once that weekend, I guarantee it.

Unfortunately, as all good things must, the weekend came and went. I was accompanied by my parents to the airport in Florida where we parted ways since they're flight was earlier than mine.

The weekend also acted as a humbling experience, it made me once again feel lucky for all that I have in my life, my support system and the opportunities I've been given.

Until next time!

Georgia

I arrived in Jacksonville, Florida the other day and met up with my parents at the airport, from there we drove an hour out of Florida and into Georgia for my brother Rick's wedding. My flight ended up being a little over 6hrs due to unexpected delays before my first connecting flight (I barely made my 2nd connecting flight in Texas) so once I did land in Florida I was more than a little out of it. As dad was checking in I was in the car with my mom and I noticed someone drive up next to us in a cart, at first I didn't pay any attention until I realized that they were still parked next to us and staring at me. I turned only to find that it was Rick! He led us to the cottage that most of the Tilghman and Larsen clans were staying in, I only had a few moments to splash some water on my face and change before we walked over to a seafood extravaganza.

We went to a place called the "Rah" Seafood Restaurant where everyone ordered a ton of they're seafood combo platters. It's been too long since I had a good seafood dinner and I think there's an unspoken rule that any Tilghman get-together is only good/legit if there's seafood. They also had a chocolate cake that was to die for! It was crazy though, there were so many people I haven't seen in years, some about 15 years, and others I had seen 3 years ago. I mingled and caught up with as many people as I could, over all it was just a really great first night to what will surely be an amazing weekend.

The Semester Thus Far

This fall semester I'll be taking 5 courses:

Sociology of Deviant Control
Sociology of Race Relations
Asian Disaporic Literature
Intro to Computer Science
Sociology Seminar

I'll still be living on campus this year, however I'm changing it up a bit, instead of living in the dorms like I had for the past few years I'm branching out and living in the apartments on campus with 3 other people. I feel like this isn't only a necessary step but a good step in the right direction. Living in the apartments will help me with giving me a taste of how it's going to be living in a place of my own after graduation, especially with buying groceries and cooking for myself. The apartments are very spacious and most of my friends live in the apartments around mine, so I'm in no means lonely or without people to hang out with. However, another bonus of the apartments is actually feeling like I have space to myself to think and study. While the dorms are nice and bustling with energy/people, I'm def preferring the apartments right now.

Unfortunately rowing is not in my future this semester since I need to focus on my thesis and such, hopefully I'll be able to come back next spring but we'll see how things go.

Hello!

Hello!

If you have come across my blog then it means that you have received the e-mail I sent out successfully. As most of you know, it's my last year here at Mills, however being out here in California has limited my ability to stay in touch with most of you. So, I came up with the idea of blogging and updating you all of my adventures during my last year of Mills.
